The tango music and dance was created in pre 1890 in Argentina by slaves. Originally
a ballet dance developed into the dance we now know as a passionate dance of
lovers.
The music originated
from a fusion of several types of music. As it formed in Buenos Aires the
dance continued to develop as it moved through the inhabitants of Uruguay and
Chile.
Across the years many
styles have been created throughout the world with different cultures adding
their own versions.
The styles were danced originally by the slave
population of the various continents, it then entered into the low income areas
and eventually the working class areas where it became fashionable to do.
Therefor as part of the dances history it does have a social
/ cultural background, originating with slaves progressing through working
class finally becoming internationally recognised throughout society.
The tango dance has several characteristics:-
The first of these are the participants in these dance,
one being a leader and the other a follower.
The second - close embrace or open embrace dependant
on the style of the participants of the dance.
The third - interpretation of the dance by its
audience and the way the participants connect there-in.
Whilst being a participant in this dance style I adopt
different characters to create the emotions that should be displayed between
the dancers and communicate this emotion to the audience with body language and
facial expression.

Flamenco dance
The dance was originally created in Spain,
in a place called Andalusia. The developmental
story is only recorded for approx. 200 years, before this time it is subject to
stories and legends passed from one generation to the next. The flamenco dance
was born from two concepts the first being produced from gypsy song and the
second from local Spanish songs.
The flamenco is a very technical dance
and can take a long time to learn correctly.
The dance has very fast footwork that needs to be precise. The other
added difficulty is the use of props such as castanets, shawls and fans.
How has it developed since then The
dance itself has developed across the years from a song dance with people
singing and banging the rhythm out on the floor with canes, to now where the
dance is technically evolved using song, music, clapping and tapping of feet.
Who would have danced it- locals in Spain
and it was generally accepted to have derived from a gypsy dance with clothing
that reflects this.
Flamenco dancing has both social and
cultural traditions – the name is thought to derive from the bird and other
ideas are that it reflects a flame. These
again are both shown in the style of dress match both origins. The social aspects are:-
The Spanish have a tradition where the
females have a lot of power in society, they are a culture where ardent devotion is a common feature among people and
the belief remains now.
Characteristic’s
- · Fast precise movement of the feet to create a certain sound.
- · Fiery display/interpretation.
- · Flamboyant dress.
I felt the footwork is very precise and
quick. Again a lot of attitude is
required on the participents part.

Bollywood
dancing
The name Bollywood derives from Bombay
and Hollywood as it sprung up from the film industry in India.
The dance has developed minimally as it
is so new to the world.
This dance is used in Indian
(primarily) film industries and is slowly becoming a common feature in general
life.
The social/cultural background shows
the dance has been developed from the film industry in Calcutta and Bombay initially
and is now used in many aspects of entertainment throughout the world. It uses
in the dance many moves bought together from traditional Indian dance as well
as merging with new choreography that helps the dance “flow”
3 characteristic
Expression – facial
Dance – brings together movements from Indian
traditional dancing.
Costume
My feelings about this dance is the
hand movements require a lot of technique along with the dance being energetic
an needing lots of energy. I like the
way the dance is used to show romantic stories.
